Teknion recognized the need to keep their Chicago Merchandise Mart showroom current and fresh in a competitive market. The existing space was in need of an update to keep the space relevant to the design community and stand out in the Neocon crowd.
The design team created a new focal point for the space with a curving millwork feature wall that wraps the existing light court in the showroom. The clean lines and flowing form draw visitors into the showroom and lead them through and around the space while providing a clean backdrop to the furniture vignettes. The glow of the light court was enhanced by backlighting.
Clean white finishes throughout the space keep the focus on the form of the design elements and maximize the limited volume. Contrasting textures of polished tile, carpet and glass provide a layering of materials without distracting from the various displays. The client’s flexible demountable glass furniture partitions allow views through the showroom while maximizing the display of the product.
The new space is completely refreshed, bright and inviting. It succeeds as a dynamic and exiting space while staying neutral as a backdrop to the furniture displays it supports.
