The current design of the greater Jinan CBD master plan envisions four distinct districts- Lake, Mountains, Spring and River that are inspired by the natural beauty of Jinan and Shandong province. The proposed design of the River District master plan seeks to retain all the elements of the Jinan CBD master plan while offering three enhancements that could be applied to the Mountain, Lake and Spring districts as well resulting in a more unfied experience and environment. First, a north-south/east-west network of wide pedestrian greenways unites the development of the River District with the Jinan CBD Ribbon Park. This network should be extended north and west into the other three districts to form a comprehensive pedestrian movement system in complement to the Ribbon Park. Second, an upper level landscaped Skywalk with retail and dining amenities links the major commercial and office zones of the River District. This innovative and unique pedestrian environment can also be extended north and west to the other three districts to create a world class. Finally, an iconic circular park, symbolic of the River District, provides a dramatic foreground for the district's two tallest towers and could be proposed in similar locations in the other districts and appropriately themed to each district's unique identity.
