High level overview: Lobby transformation including a new coffee and seating area to give tenants and visitors the best hospitality experience when visiting the 1400 Four Oaks building. Client vision/goals: Giving the space a new identity with the more contemporary, clean finishes and offering a more open and brighter space to welcome tenants and visitors. The client also wanted to attract more tenants with a coffee shop and brighter space. Design challenges: Scope and program changed several times during the project due to desire for café seating to grow in size and grow in visibility. Space was divided into 3 sections and was dark and dated. The project site was quite dated with pink stone walls and floors, dark, low lighting and enclosed elevator lobby. The challenge was to make the space feel lighter, brighter, more contemporary and open. General contractor needed extra support due to experience level. The challenge was to maintain most of the structure and mechanical infrastructure, as well as the need to mitigate floor elevation changes between lobby and what was previously tenant space and became the coffee shop. Project approach/strategy to deliver on those goals and challenges: Utilization of bright white large format marble look porcelain tile applied over the existing marble stone walls helped to brighten the space, along with cove lighting in higher ceilings and removal of walls to connect the entire lobby into one large open space. Removal of the thick set stone floors and replaced with lighter porcelain tile flooring gave the lobby a new refreshed look. Outcome: The outcome was a beautifully transformed lobby with sophisticated finish palette, with marble look large format tile, warm walnut wood, stone surface countertops, bright stainless steel accents, and improved lighting.
