TVS twice renovated the city’s popular summertime venue, a 1930s Works Projects Administration (WPA) project, where Atlanta has hosted outdoor dinner concerts for decades. The renovations create a fresh, contemporary expression while respecting Chastain’s oval seating bowl of Stone Mountain granite.
Designers captured the essence of the outdoor music experience by framing the stage area in long, stacked-granite walls, and creating translucent stage canopies animated by the varied lighted of individual performances. Green perforated seating resembles leaves foliating the amphitheater bowl. TVS flanked the stage with rustic granite speaker towers, added a new concession area, and expanded back-of-house operations.
After two renovations 11 years apart, Chastain contributes to the continuation of the Atlanta region’s long-standing enjoyment of top-name entertainers from around the world. From a blanket on the lawn to linen-covered tables, concert goers enjoy the stars of summer evenings.
