This manufacturer of contract carpet products relocated their Chicago showroom out of the Merchandise Mart to an adjacent four story century old building within the Kinzie Design Center. Selected for its loft character and daylight windows at both ends of the space, the 3,500 sf showroom is defined by sandblasted rustic brick walls and exposed wood framing. The design team made the most of the loft setting and rustic qualities of the space. Exposed beams and brick provide texture and clean ceiling planes provide contrast and rhythm. Reclaimed wood floors are whitewashed to showcase their utilitarian simplicity while providing contrast to the walls and highlighting the carpet on display. A dramatic wall of movable partitions creates visual layers and defines zones that allow visitors to focus on individual groups of products. Striking millwork islands provide additional storage and flexible spaces for display and entertaining. Clean glass walls at the back of the space and an inset area rug provides contrast as well as a boundary for the showroom’s meeting room. The Chicago showroom succeeds by providing both a dynamic space and a timeless neutral backdrop that showcases the client’s carpet products in a gallery of brand promotion.
