Bringing together Auburn University athletics and facilities along with key stakeholders (coaching staff, multiple members of the athletics department, facilities representatives), the design team worked to develop a long-range plan for improvements to the Jane B. Moore Softball Stadium through extensive work-sessions. These work-sessions enabled a tailored programmatic approach that meets stakeholder needs while reducing excess, putting the following project goals at the forefront:
- Create superior player facilities to support recruitment
- Provide a fan friendly, expandable stadium
- Upgrade the press box
- Improve field attributes with better sightlines and seating
- Create an environment that would be able to flex and support summer camps, allowing for events other than softball to bring in the surrounding community.
Working with these University groups, several arrangements were studied through a lens for future growth while minimizing current costs. The selected site arrangement tears down a part of the earlier practice structure, rebuilding it out of sightline interference and enlarging it to be a best-in-class coaching facility, The site arrangement also relocates dugouts to make seating sightlines work, and includes a new press box, VIP facility and an upper deck and terrace with partial roof over seating. A club space on the main concourse replaces the existing press box and creates a year-round space used to anchor events to the facility.
Plans include 2,600 seats with support facilities, new indoor batting and practice areas with removable nets, as well as a complete infield for all weather and camp practice. The new facility is fully air conditioned, increasing superior recruiting potential. Other aspects include revamped field storage areas out of view from television camera views, potential for new players locker and meeting facilities, new access arrangements and parking areas.
