Pragati Maidan Exhibition and Convention Center is the largest venue for exhibitions and conferences in New Dehli, India’s capital city. Operated by the India Trade Promotion Organization, the Pragati Maidan Center is gearing up for the G20 Summit and plans to complete a major expansion to over 4.4 million square feet in preparation. A clever combination of the same redstone and limestone used on New Delhi’s iconic government structures further illustrates the theme of connectivity and ingenuity in this design concept.
To realize this vision, the tvsdesign team incorporates visual aspects of the site’s surrounding texture, seamlessly assimilating it within the city. The dynamic interplay between the city’s interconnectedness and an international venue are integrated with broader concepts of growth in the site’s design. The project includes five exhibit halls, 53 meeting rooms, a plenary hall that seats 8,000, accommodation for a future five star 1000-key headquarters hotel, an amphitheater, street level retail shops and an underground parking lot for 5,000 cars. Significant landscaping will also take place, including an eleven acre central maidan with traditional water well inspired water features and a landscaped convention center roof garden. Each area of the campus is connected by elevated pedestrian bridges and walkways within the maidan, making it ideal for optimal traffic flow. Direct access to the Dehli Metro further connects visitors to the city.
