This project brings the new design aesthetic of a planned addition into the repositioning of existing amenity spaces and all of the meeting spaces below the grand hotel’s north and south guestroom towers. Featuring a new grab ‘n’ go outlet and other new food and beverage outlets such as a lobby bar, lounge and three-meal destination restaurant, level two of the South Tower has become the heart and hub of the hotel.
The design language of natural materials and clean, modern detailing throughout the public spaces reflect warm neutrals reminiscent of glimmering sand and surf. Influenced by water and natural fauna, accent colors are pronounced in the carpeting, fabrics and artwork. Patterns and elements within the carpet capture the spirit and tranquility of water and showcase abstracted forms of kelp and coral.
New feature walls not only create a dramatic sense of place, but they also serve as wayfinding elements between spaces. The varied chosen materials — shells, art glass, wood veneers and stone — help to emphasize the design concept while providing that ‘wow’ factor. The artwork, decorative lighting and furnishings embody the new design aesthetic of the property and contribute to a cohesive “Cool, Coastal, California” theme, and help promote a serene, resort-like environment to this property redesigned to be a destination hotel.
