LPL FINANCIAL’S UNIQUE FLOORPLATE MAXIMIZES NATURAL LIGHT AND VIEWS INTO THE SURROUNDING WOODS
DESIGN GOALS & STRATEGY
The interior design team worked with the larger project team from the beginning of the process resulting in a design strategy that supports and reflects the values of the client and their mission to promote success and creativity for their employees while respecting the planet’s resources. An inside/outside concept was central to the strategy. Building on this key design goal, they incorporated design features like elevator cores located on the to the outboard corners of the building allowing a narrower floor plate, optimal views and natural light for all occupants. Building columns were also designed outside the building envelope and floor plate widths were tailored for maximum space planning flexibility. Outside views and natural light, glass stairwell connections and extension of materiality between the interior and exterior were all utilized to connect the interior space to the exterior space. The campus, which is comprised of two buildings totaling 450,000 sf focused on net-zero energy goals and maximizing natural light for all. Workplace flexibility for employees was also factored into the design to increase employee satisfaction and thus increase productivity.
LPL’s new campus is a state-of-the-art workplace where employees can be innovative and collaborative in flexible work environments. The two 450,000 sf glass buildings blend rural and urban elements for a unique and memorable workspace. The client’s vision of a campus focusing on employee well-being and promoting engagement in a high-energy workplace was achieved. Sustainable elements such as nature light—with outdoor views of the woods—-, net-zero H2O and incorporation of brick and glass to minimize heat and maximize light were used. Other features include a fitness center, community garden, outdoor meeting space, a café with indoor and outdoor seating and a coffee shop. The two-story lobby wows employees and visitors with its stunning views of the lake and natural light in the open space. A dining area spills on to the boardwalk along the lake. A multiuse conference center supports larger meeting on-site. Glass stairways boost employee interaction between departments and increase chance employee encounters which could lead to unexpected idea collaboration. Each floor has a unique color palette to encourage and inspire wayfinding and open spaces to encourage creativity. A graphic solution showcases the reuse of trees from the site with environmental facts. Custom furniture was built and included the ability to adjust the height on each desk. The result is a landmark campus that shows the client’s commitment to their employees and to the environment.
