As the virtual and physical portal for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to the world, the challenge in designing the Global Communications Center was to create a welcoming yet highly secured environment. Vital information will be communicated from this site to more than 10,000 CDC employees, thousands of governmental units, and tens of thousands public health science professionals worldwide, making the center the singular architectural icon for the CDC.
In one cohesive architectural expression, the facility provides on-campus and remote
learning and informational services through high definition television, microphotography, graphic arts, and internet studios, as well as a conference center and the CDC comprehensive medical library.
Designed in close collaboration with the client, the Center is appropriately expressive of the CDC's image and enormously enhances its functionality as an unparalleled leader to the world of public health.
