The project is an expansion at the Turner Broadcasting Companies operations facilities. The development is a classic southern collegiate campus and this new eight level multipurpose office building anchors the southern end of the campus. Tied to the adjacent facilities by covered walkways the building sits on top of new broadcasting studios designed at the same time by another firm. The building integrates a long span structure allowing unencumbered open studio space below. Part of the facilities below is covered by a roof garden.
The south facade of the building presents a formal and tailored image along 10th Street and toward the immediately adjacent Georgia Institute of Technology campus. The design of this face incorporates punched windows in a brick and precast concrete wall compatible with other buildings on the Turner campus as well as the adjacent university buildings. The north facade, in contrast, is entirely glass providing uniform northern light to the office interiors and at night presenting a “lantern” to the internal corporate campus. The glass wall is articulated with an artful pattern of translucent and transparent panels providing scale as well as a playful and creative image representative of the creative activities happening in the building.
