tvsdesign Launches New Healthcare Design Practice
Architect Bob Farrow to Lead New Group

ATLANTA, June 14, 2018–tvsdesign announced today it will launch a new healthcare design practice that will be led by long-time Atlanta architect Bob Farrow.

2018 marks tvsdesign’s 50th anniversary, and an expansion into healthcare design is a natural fit with the firm’s strategy to diversify its offerings, particularly in metro Atlanta during this milestone year, according to President Janet Simpson.

“We’ve been shaping Atlanta’s skyline since 1968 and have made a lasting impact across the industries we serve, including hospitality, sports, education, retail, convention, office and workplace,” Simpson says. “A built environment that supports and enriches wellness is very much a part of our DNA, and expanding into healthcare design is the perfect extension of both our business and our corporate values.”

Farrow’s work over four decades covers a full range of private and government projects including ambulatory care centers, community hospitals, large complex teaching hospitals, pediatric hospitals, and research facilities. He has worked with a wide range of healthcare and institutional clients throughout the United States with a concentration in the Southeast region.

Farrow worked as a Principal and Director of the healthcare practice for one of the Southeast’s leading firms. He is Chief Executive Officer of the Health Facility Institute, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the education of health facility project professionals. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, teaching master’s level classes in healthcare design.

“tvsdesign is an industry leader not only in their design talent, but in their commitment to creating incredible client relationships,” Farrow says. “Joining this firm is the perfect opportunity to continue serving this fast-growing market segment, with a uniquely talented, people-driven team.”

Farrow will lead a veteran team that includes Channing McLeod, Brian Polinsky and Barbara Kovar Blum. McLeod and Polinsky each has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare design, and have served as managers, project architects and planners on a variety of designs at major hospitals in metro Atlanta and the Southeast. They have been responsible for new buildings, expansion and renovations of dozens of healthcare facilities. Blum will be responsible for the team’s business development and marketing strategy.

“Bob and his team are dedicated to helping healthcare institutions enhance the patient, visitor and staff experience with game-changing design solutions,” Simpson said. “With this new team in place, tvsdesign is well positioned to make a valuable contribution to the growth of Atlanta’s healthcare community.”

Because healthcare spending makes up a large percentage of the US Gross Domestic Product, Simpson believes the new healthcare team will make a significant contribution to tvsdesign’s future growth. The US Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services projects that healthcare spending will on average rise 5.5 percent annually from 2017 to 2026 and will comprise 19.7 percent of the U.S. economy in 2026, up from 17.9 percent in 2016. By 2026, health spending is projected to reach $5.7 trillion.

The new healthcare design team will complement tvsdesign’s core business, which is experiencing a banner year. The company’s current major projects include designing the $1 billion expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York, as well as major expansions of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The firm also recently completed the Auburn University Mell Classroom building, a new headquarters and training facility for Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United Football Club and a unique workplace design for United Way of Greater Atlanta’s three-story space in downtown Atlanta.
